What kind of food does he eat? It might have something in it that is irritating to his skin, you know, from the inside. Both of my girls had dry flaky skin, it never got cracked though, and I started them on Missing Link supplement. It took about a month,but their skin and coats improved SO much.
Maybe try some Aloe gel on it, the medicine might be irritating too
