My yorkie has liver problems that cause him to produce ammonium urate bladder stones...There's no way to completely stop these crystals/stones from forming unless his liver starts working up to par...So, he had a surgery to create a new larger pee hole so that he can pass the stones easily...If it weren't for this surgery, he would have to be on a urinary catheter at all times which is most definitely not a possibility as it would cause more problems...
