You're right to be scared of this - a good friend of mine had her yorkie taken by a hawk and she was right there ! It took years for her to get over it - she still has a hard time talking about it.
They not only can fly off with a small yorkie - the TALONS alone will kill or seriously injure a small dog. HAWKS or other predatory birds are always looking for rabbits, chipmonks, field mice etc and a small yorkie running looks just like this to them.
