When my baby has her babies I make sure to get her a mommy cut prior to the whelping. We have her belly & rear end shaved, much cleaner for her and the babies. As for the mats you may have to cut them in half in order to brush them out, or you may have to cut them out all together. Her hair will grow back, I know that most of us on here hate to cute their beautiful hair! Most of the other options I can think of to rid her of her mats wouldn't be good for her babies!
