Have you ever had him scraped for mites? When I adopted Charlie, he had demodex and fur around his legs and head, but his back was extremely thin. There are two type of mites: demodex and scarcoptic. Also, I paid for a geriatric panel before I adopted him, and his thyroid was -0- and should have been at 2-4. Thyroid medication daily, Invermetic drops daily for several months put him on the road to recovery. His coat is growing rapidly, and skin is not bumpy or scaley.

Also, I feed him Orijen and Nordic Natural Cod Liver oil once a day.

He is also adopted and was in a shelter environment (home but with 13 other dogs).
