I never knew this technique had a name, but it is exactly what I do...I get an A+ for effort. And Winston is real good almost all the time...his major downfall is being anti-social, but we're working on that! He always sits for his meals...And he'll sit and wait with his toy for play time...To go outside he makes a very muffled "ERF" sound...or goes to the door and waits, He is very patient and waits for me easily. I just wish I had let him meet more people and dogs, he's not mean towards them, he just simply avoids them. I do believe this technique will work with most behavioral problems...Try it on Benjamin see if you can become his faithful leader and he your loving companion.
