Was that a tiny loofa dog? Oh no! I am assuming you tried another loofa dog?
Well....I found a fun one recently...a TY beanie bow wow toy. The cool thing about it is that it crinkles AND squeaks and is relatively small. I bought "Stink the Skunk".
I also made a squeaky toy...maybe you can repair loofa dog? Petsmart had a package of replacement squeakers. Poor baby! That sounds like something I would do! I feel your pain.
