Hi. I have a lovely little yorkie who is almost 2. I really wanted her to have a companion, my husband disagreed, said she was a people dog, but needless to say, Natalie now has a little friend. We picked up a 12 week old maltese last night and I need some advice on how to get them to be friends. The breeder let us bring Natalie over last Monday to see how they would do with each other and Natalie was shy but OK. She hasn't been around very many dogs so we were a little concerned. We brought Lilli home and she was comfortable right away, she would go after Natalie to play. Natalie would then chase the puppy and check her out but after this goes on for a few minutes, Natalie gets real excited and starts to growl at the puppy. I know one has to be the dominant one, but how can I tell if it is just play or if she would hurt the puppy. I know it will take a little time, I just want everyone to be happy and no one to get hurt. Thanks.
