He does look cute!! I cut my two dogs pony tails off and i figured hey...it can grow back if it doesn't look cute. they "do" like it better without having it because they can mess up there face when they get playful and they love it. :-) i even got more brave and cut the hair on top of their heads and the sides of their faces so that when they drink water they don't dribble and have wet little faces.
to do it all you have to do is take all of the top hair, comb from ear to ear at the top of their head. (not down the back of the head, just the top) Hold all of it between your index and middle finger. (the tips of your fingers will be pointing towards the tail) bring up the tips of your fingers (like at angle so that you will be cutting more hair off towards the eyes. -(the hair towards the top of your fingers is longer. this way the shorter pieces would be towards the eyes) you will end up cutting about 2-3 inches off or so... maybe more.
Or you can: take all of the hair from ear to ear. take it all as if you are going to tie it up in a top knot. Then hold it all straight up (from ear to ear- holding the hold the hair b/w index and middle finger) the tips of your fingers will then be pointing at either ear (depending if you are left handed or right) you can do this in just one or two snips. It frames the face very nicely. what it will be like is the longer pieces of hair go down along the front of the face and it ends up being shorter in the middle, like between the eyes will be the shorter parts.
I also cut the hair around their eyes. it stays nice and clean so that the never have teary buildup that tends to get hard clumps that form and even leave stain marks. :-) you have to be careful.
for the sides of the face i just hold it staight out. hold hair b/w index and middle (tips of you fingers will be towards the floor. hold straight out and cut a straight line down.
you do not have to cut hardly anything and it will look neater.
The chin hair- (you can cut w/o cutting the sides of the head) just take the comb underneath the chin. hold hair b/w index and middle finger and hold the hair straight down leaving only about an inch of hair under the chin. cut below your fingers not the top part of fingers. this way the scissors are not close to his mouth. they are closer to your fingers.
i told someone else how to do this and they were amazed how simple it was to do. it's hard because you can't demonstrate you have to write it all out.
