The place I take my Max to is kind of like that too. Sometimes I take him in early (like 7 am) and they'll have him finished in about 4 hours. I think part of it is that they have a lot of dogs there at the same time, and I'm not sure how they work it, but they've got a sort of bookcase type of structure that has cubicles that are open on the front and they can put the dogs in there and secure them while they're working on other dogs, or the dogs can play with other dogs on the floor before they're groomed. But when they're really busy, I'll take him in and he won't be done til about 6 hrs later. He's always very happy to see me, but I think he does just fine while he's there. And the place is immaculate, the groomers are all really nice and they do a great job on Max. And if I'm not satisfied with his cut, they'll fix it right then and there. No problem. Sometimes if a dog is more comfortable, they'll keep him in his own crate/carrier until they groom them.
