That is my thought too. These little Yorkies can get bad diarrhea even to the point of being bloody puddles, from stress and foods. The crying on the way home makes me think he was traumatized from the experience of being put in a strange place and left there. Dogs don't know we are coming back. They only feel abandoned. Give your baby lots of love and attention, but at the same time if he doesn't show any imporvement in 24 hours, I'd have him checked out by the Vet.
