"I'll Mark It, Again and Again, and Again" Listen to your vet. The earlier you get them neutered, the better. If you wait too long, the male dog doesn't realize that his "you know what" has been removed, and will still mark his territory. Believe me, I know. I adopted a one year old red heeler (Australian Cattle Dog), and had him fixed. To this day he still thinks, he is the main territory marker for the property. I asked the vet about it, and the above is what he told me.
