Yorkies do develop very strong bonds. My dogs (two yorkies, one lab) all love everyone in the family....but they all also have their very *favorite* members....and unfortunately, *none* of them love *me* the most!

I was teasing my husband about this the other day, saying we needed one more dog so one could be "mine".

But he and I both know, it woudn't make a difference...when he's around, he's always going to be more "popular" than I am...because he feeds them! Meaning....little treats all night long. Pinches of hamburger and cheese while dinner is cooking...naughty little nibbles of whatever he's eating.... Not much...yorkies are generally small dogs, and they tend to have sensitive stomachs, so their "treats" should be kept to a minimum. But a little taste of something here and there throughout the evening from YOU, not her, would quickly associate you with Good Things.

Other than that, just try doing what the dog likes best! If it's playful, play with it....if it's not (some yorkies aren't!) don't try to press that issue. Some yorkies aren't really lap dogs and don't like to be petted if they DO come and lay in your lap....I have one that's that way, and another who is practically surgically attached to us!

Best advice....just love the little dog and accept it no matter what, and don't make an issue out of this. Dogs don't understand such things the same way that humans do, and he'll only pick up on the fact that you seem annoyed with him all the time for some reason....which of course will only intensify his reactions.

If this a puppy? How old? They go through different stages of feeling more anxious or insecure, and your girlfriend may just be his "safe" person.

On the other hand, Mazie was almost a year old when we got her, and for the LONGEST time she was completely (abnormally!) attached to me: wouldn't take her eyes off me and was anxious if someone else held her....had a fit if I left the room....acted scared of my husband, etc. Well guess what.....a year (and lots of spoiling from him! ) later, and she is HIS GIRL!!!! From the time he walks in the door at night, she never leaves his side...or his lap!

Hang in there and just go with the flow....I bet you guys will bond yet!
