could have - see post #23 of this thread (Crystal's Mom) whose 10-yr-old son was killed by a drunk driver. 
And, ya know, I personally don't like to see the rich or famous OR the poor and unknown suffer more than necessary - I never see cruelty as an answer to anything. Nor does it ever satisfy me to "knock" others down - I can't even imagine how that would potentially be satisfying. Neither of those things have anything to do w/ the crime. 
Yes, she shouldn't pay for the sheriff's mistake. But she should pay for the crime - she violated probation etc. and people do go to jail for similar offenses. I doubt she needs to serve 45 days - she should serve whatever is similar in other cases.
