I guess it depends on what you're studying. I know when I was taking my History courses (which I don't care for), I first tried reading a little at a time, taking notes, etc. I found that by the end of the week (test time), I had forgotten most of it. So, I changed my strategy. Keep in mind, this was an internet course. I would set aside an entire weekend, get up Saturday morning and read, take notes, use study guides, etc. and then take the test immediately. I found that I did much better that way.
