Take her to a groomer and ask to stay to help and watch. I have to stay with Sammy because she squirms and I have to help hold her. The groomer showed me where to trim because I've always done puppy cuts (clippers) on Loki and never had one in a fuller coat. My groomer is wonderful. It took a while to find her! I've observed enough that I can do every other haircut and I take them to her for butt/belly shaves and then trim their feet, ears, faces and butts in between. She taught me so much and it saves me money so I always tip well!!!
The best way to find a groomer that will let you stay is to find one who does one dog at a time, usually at their home or a small shop. A large shop will typically have the dogs dropped off in the morning and picked up in the afternoon. They will do all of the cuts, then all of the baths. Your dog will sit in a crate for most of the day. I think this seriously messed with Loki when he was a baby and he is still afraid of things. He would SHAKE when he went to the groomer, even when I picked him up. Now it's just a fun thing to do because she feeds him cookies and cuddles him the whole time. |
