I would not use skin so soft. It has a sorta oily base and your dogs coat wil be a mess cause dirt and everything else will stick to it. And dogs should not be bathed every day. Mosquito bites do not react on dogs like they do on humans. If you were to see yor feller scratching, it would be either fleas or ticks.
AND, YES, it is important to use a heartworn preventative... it does not have the same action as other vaccines. It kills any larvae that has formed in your dog's body due to bites in the PAST 30 days. I would get him tested and if the test is neg. start on heartgard or any other product your vet recommends..
Other chemicals can be toxic including some that are found in SSS...from Avon. Might not be good for the dog to lick it off..
