Spay question My yorkie Mckenna is now 8 months old and 7 pounds and I want to get her spayed this summer. My vet was going to do it when she was 5 or 6 months, but when I asked how much it would cost I was told $500 or more depending on if they had to pull any teeth while she was under. Anyways, everyone I've talked to says that they've gotten their dogs spayed/neutered for much less at their vet office. A few of my friends have even gotten their dogs spayed at the local spca for a lot less at the low cost spay/neuter clinic.
Is $500 too much to have a puppy spayed? Also, if I decide to go to the local spay/neuter clinic will they provide the same care as a high cost vet office? The price is not even my primary concern, I guess I've really been putting it off because I'm just worried about the horror stories I've heard about small dogs dying while under anaesthesia. Just thinking about it makes my stomach hurt. I don't know what I'd do if something happened to Mckenna. On the other hand, I've heard that problems can come up when dogs are not spayed/neutered.
I'm sorry for rambling, but I've been putting this off and I could use some wisdom from other yorkie moms and dads. |
