Congratulations on the new family addition. Generally when you bring a puppy into the home where there is a dog several years older, the adjustment isn't really quick for the older dog. Puppies have so much playful energy that intimidates the older one, but they do tend to work things out. I'd keep the puppy in an expen attached to the front of a wire crate with wee-wee pads down and take him outside every hour till he's house trained. They can get to know each other thru the pen and outside.
