Seventeen weeks is a bit young, it really depends on how fast the coat is growing. Start with a small barrette and put it a bit closer to the nose. If it won't hold enough hair gather up the hair behind the barette and band it. The trick is to keep it dry and safe so that it doesn't get broken.
