I am wondering if anyone on the forum has bought a puppy from a pet store that was for a fact bred either by the owner in the town in which the store is located..AND, I am wondering if anyone has bought a puppy that bred hundreds of miles away in the south to mid-west and shipped. Look at the paperwork. If there is a name and addy look in the USDA licencing sire and see if you find the name of the breeder. Now, this is not to say there are not an occasional breeder that sells wholesale and flies under the radar and does not have the license, but that is rare. That license, in MY UNDERSTANDING, is necessary to sell animals wholesale, whether it is cattle, goats, horses or any other farm animal. Who has enough puppies to sell wholesale? Who contacts the breeders and the pet stores and arranges such sales? Can you say BROKERS, boys and girls? Am I wrong? Do I think each store owner goes from MD to Iowa, MO, MS,OK, etc. and picks out each individual puppy, plays with it, checks its temperment, joints and so on? Nope! Do you?
There will always be some who will say there are good pet shops and I agree. They sell foods, supplies, grooming products and so on, but not companion animals. I choose to go to shops that DO NOT sell those animals! JMO. Of course, the views expressed here are the opinions of the writer and do not reflect the views of the forum...bet pet store owners who sell puppies are totally glad for that.. |
