My sister had a birthday party for one of her children and had RSVP with a date on the invitation. Two people called the day of the party and said they would be there. She had gift bags and had to go out and get more bags and stuffing to put in them. I think some people wait until the day of the event to make sure nothing else is going on - like you don't have a life and can accommodate them at the last minute!!
