Have you guys ever given them bread?

My dad started giving her bread, and I am not sure if it's ok. We asked her vet (who is no longer her vet, since a new vet has taken over) and he said it was okay, but he'd highly recommend brown bread instead. Can anybody fill me in, with the negative and positives of giving them bread?

I have noticed how much she itches, and I am beginning it is because of the bread.
