I was hoping that was the case, because I like seeing other people's dogs! I think they are just gorgeous. I too am pretty shy, and I like having that common ground. I would be very sad if it is annoying or socially incorrect to comment on someone's puppy.
It was definitely a princess... or if it was a prince, then she shouldn't dress him up in pink and then expect people to know the difference!!
