Just a suggestion, not sure if it will help the training part but it would save the carpets. If you have boys, you could try belly bands for "in between" potty times. I babysit a friends dog quite often and whenever he comes over he immediately tries to start marking. His feet don't hit my floor before he has a belly band on with a poise pad.
