This probably is not the correct forum to post in, but this is the one which gave me the most comfort when my baby Mac died so suddenly in April.
On May 23 my husband and I got Lolly, a finish show dog who was an unsuccessful breeder. She is 5 years old and beautiful. She has luxating patella in both legs. Right now they pop in and out by themselves. My vet says he has known many dogs who live their whole life without surgery. He told me that if she eventually needed surgery it would cost $700-900 per leg.
While my husband does not part easily with a buck, he realized that would be cheaper that institutionalizing me. As soon as I figure out how to post her picture, I will.

Now I must be somewhat strident and address Yorkie rescue groups. I spent HOURS searching the internet, calling breeders and going to dog pounds. There was one group relatively close by that had several dogs available. I filled out adoption forms, and got references from my vet and my friends.
I told her I was willing to put up a fence, and would no longer use the electric fence since it kept the dog in but not predators out. I was concerned about coyotes, fisher cats, hawks, eagles,etc.

I pestered my friends every other day to see if my references had been checked. I postponned having a growth removed from the side of my foot because I would not be able to wear shoes for a week. I had promised a recently widowed friend of mine that I would go to NYC to help her pack up her late husband's belongings, so she would not have to do it alone. I asked her if she could wait until I heard about the dogs. I put my life on hold. After 3 weeks with no response, I emailed this person and asked about the status of my application. In the interim I had heard though the grapevine that she did not wish to give up the dog and wanted it place very near her.

She sent me back a rather snippy email saying that she insisted on fences and that I did not have one and that electric fences were cruel. I emailed her back to remind her tnat I said I would put in a fence and would not use the electric fence. I believe she never had any intention of letting me have a dog. While I applaud the efforts of these groups to place these dogs, they need to understand that there are many decent and loving peple who want to take a rescue or rehomed dog. It was certainly her perogative not to sell me a dog (they say donnation.) However I feel she was cruel and insensitive.
She could have said from day one that she would not place a dog with me. I suffered a devestating loss, and her insensitivity only added to it.
I cried so much, I ruined a keyboard.

If I were so inclined, I could afford to buy 5 yorkie pups. I felt that given my age and the number of dogs that needed homes, that I was being responsible in seeking an older dog. I felt it would be unfair to buy a $2500 dog and then spay or neuter it.

I realize I sound very bitter, but I think that some of there Mother Theresa Yorkie rescue people need to understand that there are a number of us St. Francis adoptive Yorkie people who would want to lavish love one these dogs.

God bless Foxfire Yorkies for allowing me to take this beautiful little girl. She will have the best life I can give her.
