You said you don't trust anyone else, but you are thinking about putting your dog in a kennel. I would reconsider, and ask a neighbor to take the dog or to stop by and take care of him. I noticed that neighbors who have kids or other dogs are really willing to take care of Archie because they know that their kid or dog will get attention, and so will Archie. If I have to leave Archie for more than 3 or 4 hours, I usually ask my neighbors if they'd mind watching him. In turn, I watch their dog when they need to get their house repainted or whatever. I'm sure if you said something along the lines of, "If you ever need me to watch Fido, I'd be happy to do so in the future," and no one with a dog will say no to that---especially if they're lucky enough someday to go to Florida & stay free in a timeshare!!
