I was going to get a girl this time around but my breeder talked me into a boy. In her house, she has had experience that some girls are very sweet but that her boys were more loving, loyal, and cuddly.
I love hyper and mischevious and that is what I got...but I asked for it. My dog is a TON of work. Absolutely brilliant (I've had two boy dogs and both were VERY intellegent), athletic, fun, and loving.
I did neuter him at 6 1/2 mos and still struggle with my decision. One study said to wait until after a year for bone development...but I was afraid to wait because I didn't want bad habits to start. My friend wanted me not to neuter him at all and train him not to hump and lift leg. He is very hyper as is and I cannot imagine those hormones ragging through him and me trying to train that out of him along with our obediance training.
I had another boy briefly who was the complete opposite. Very calm.
I have friends with females and on every walk we go on, they mark just as much if not more as my dog. My dog's mother even lifts her leg.
