I never leave mine alone to have full run of the house. A friend of mine had an older Yorkie (5 or 6 years old I think) that got bored and chewed a lamp cord. She didn't make it. Mine are crated while I'm gone and the most I've been away from mine is like 3-4 hours at one time. I like to say they are crated for their safety and my peace of mind.
