NO SCRATCHING girly!! You'll peel off the color! Put some vaseline on it. I have a small rose tattoo on my right shoulder and it is about 8-9 years old too. It was faded and looked so gross. So last summer I went to have it re-done and it looks awesome now. The girl at the tattoo parlor told me that if you want to keep your tattoo fresh looking, you should have it touched up every 4-5 years.
