Im no expert but I would assume that an hour is too long. he dosent even know why he is in there after a few minutes if not seconds. I also dont think the patting may help because he may start peeing in secret spots so you wont catch him. As far as squating. I actually dont mind that my boys squat. they are both almost 2, when they pee with the leg up the tend to pee on each other trying to pee in the same spot.
. so i incourage that they squat. These lil guys are tuff to potty train so you just gotta hang in there. there are many posts on this exact matter so you can do a search of how other people have dealt with it. good luck
