What a great read!
I remember going to the animal shelter about 2 years ago (before I had my yorkies). I was looking for a dog to bring into my family.
While I was there, I saw a cage that was covered by a sheet. I asked the janitor why that one cage was covered.
He lifted the sheet to show me....a pregnant pitbull. Her tummy was HUGE. I immediatly said "wow looks like your gonna have puppies any day now".
He turned to me and said "unless she has them tonight, she's not having them at all." I didn't understand what he meant at first. He continued to explain, that first thing in the morning, she's scheduled to be put down.
I immediately teared up and started yelling. How can they kill a pregnant dog??? Apparently the janitor had been figting for her survival as well, but his hands were tied. There was nothing he could do.
I stormed out of there and called my local news stations, and peta. To my surprize..NO ONE CARED! How can people be so insensitive, I thought.
The next morning, I showed up to the animal shelter again, VERY early. The SECOND the door was open, I burst in there looking for her, just HOPING she was ok.
I ran to the back and to my surprise the sheet was still on the cage. The janitor remembered me and came to me as fast as he could. It turned out that she did infact have her puppies overnight. HER LIFE HAD BEEN SAVED!
They cannot kill a mother who is nursing puppies!!!!
I burst out in tears and was laughing so loud. What a miracle! She made it!
