Yeah I agree, I'm thinkin they may have been lying, unless the associate just got dogs mixed up or something. When Reagan was little the worst spot for matts were where her front legs met her body, I guess her armpit area. Everytime I brushed her there were tangles so just keep an eye on that area and maybe the bottom area. I'm just trying to think of areas maybe you don't keep a close eye on and maybe missed them.
You'll know matts, just think of what your hair would be like matted up. Its just small knots that turn into bigger and bigger problems. When that puppy hair is coming out it can be worse, that hair tends to get tangled up. But I'm with JJ if you were combing from skin to the end of the hair you shouldn't have any matts or at least you should know it.
And for the nails, right after they are clipped they do tend to be sharp. Take him for a walk on pavement and it should smooth them down. I've also heard of people actually filing down the pups nails with a ruglar nail file, I guess you could try that.
