It sounds kind of severe and painful to be reverse sneezing. I'm thinking more of collapsed trachea. Is it spasming when you put your hand on it? Could something be caught in his throat? I'd take him back to the vet - or a different vet - pretty quickly bc if his airway is compromised (or getting there), he could be in danger.
