I have only left my eldest alone for two nights- i left her once with mom when I was moving back home and once at the shelter when I had taken her back when she was old enough to get spayed.
Other than that I try to plan the vacation around her.. spoiled rotten little dog. However one time I did take her to the beach for spring break and had a foster dog at the time and knew there was no way I could handle two dogs on the trip, plus the foster wasn't completely potty trained yet. So I had a pet sitter come in a few times a day- she was highly recommended and I loved her and so did Marley.
Back when I was in high school we boarded my Bichon at the groomers for a couple days to go to my college's orientation and then to the beach for a few days. We had boarded her there several times before without a problem. We ended up coming back a day early from the beach so went ahead and picked her up. She had some kind of green junk coming out of her eyes and when we got home she peed for several minutes. I don't think she had been let of her cage the entire time she was there from the way she looked and acted. It was slam packed that wknd b/c it was the fourth of july wknd and I think they just did not bother messing with her since she was a quiet dog and never made much of a ruckus if not let out. From that point on we have never boarded the dogs anywhere.
I'm sure there will come a time when we have to but whenever I do I will be sure to throughly check the place out. |
