I think the majority of YT people are very friendly and welcoming. That being said, certainly friendships and trust do need to be developed. That takes time. Just like any real world community, people aren't automatically as close to the person they just met as they are to the close friend they've been having lunch with for the past 5 years. So,while newbies are often welcomed with open arms, it does take awhile until people get to know them. MG, I've been posting here since 2005, and have not been shy, but I still feel that there are many here that I don't know all that well. It takes time. That doesnt mean you have to prove yourself, just give it time until people get to know you.
And believe me, even now, if I am thinking of purchasing something from someone, or deciding where I fall on an issue that a member has posted, I will go back and read thru past posts. Often, knowing a little more about a person helps to create the context within which I understand what they are saying.
