I bought a roll of Vinyl flooring from Home Depot; it costs about $20.00. Put it under the ex-pen, it works great. I use the flooring for the dogs' puppy pads. Do not cut the vinyl! It works best if it is large enough to reach outside of the ex-pen area (for spills, water, etc.). Make sure the vinyl that you choose is a light color, so you can see the accidents.
