We just returned from a couple of days at the CA coast and Bella ended up with 4 TICKS...yes 4!! At first I only found 2..I just let them be until we got home and removed them with a pointed tweezer and gave her a bath...then I checked her again and found 2 more!! Be sure to check their feet and between toes.
Where I live we don't have a problem so I didn't worry about protection...live and learn! I will be changing my protection!
Also....try and save the tick if possible for testing if needed.
