Your profile says you're in California (or Taiwan? - I have no idea if they have Lyme's disease there!). So yes, there are ticks that carry Lymes there (and there are other diseases they can carry, too).

Apparently you have different types of ticks in CA than we have in NJ. Let this be a warning to you to take a look at what you are using and make sure it covers ticks. In fact, maybe you'd like to get something onto your dog today -and your parent's dog, if you think they wouldn't mind. Personally I use Frontline Plus, but people have different preferences. The Advantix smells a bit intense for my liking.
