I hate to say it, but the cats are probably smacking your baby on the head, and use a bit of claw. The sores are probably scabs. Whenever Mugzy messes with our cat, M'Laynie, (and he can't resist) she smacks him on the head. He doesn't care, though, and will chase after her.
