Consistency, consistency, consistency
Follow V's advice, be consistent (did I already say that), be patient, and hang in there. Having a pup that needs housetrained needs to be looked at as a 24 hour job. Time and effort spent now will be worth it later!
Also, buy some good cleaner that removes odor from carpets...if you are trying to convince mom to keep this pup, that may go a long way.
