HOW scary for you and Cali! I'm so sorry! I can't stand the thought of her struggle.
I hear you about the bell - it would dangerous if Marcel didn't wear a bell (he's 1 pound 10 oz) - he just must have one. I do take his collar off when we're gone, but I can think of a couple times where it was left on and I could've been in exactly the same situation as you. So, you're not alone!
