[QUOTE=Chato's Mama;1077515]Hello I am trying to know a little bit more about liver shunt and provide something useful for those ones who has it or had it. I have seen lost of threads that are asking for help on liver shunt and maybe we can make a little summary of the liver shunt forum talkers for quick reference. I wanted to post it here because I think this is the section that has the most views . Please let us know
**your name and your babies name -Tanya & Lexi is my baby
** breed and is it purebred or mix - Yorkie 100%
**what symptoms did you observed- throwing up yellow liquid, diarrea, head pressing.
**how old was your puppy - She was diagnosed at 2 yrs. She is 2.3 now
**what was the immediate treatment - Hill's L/D, Lactulose
**did you performed surgery? if not reason.- Exploratory done 3 wks ago & has MVD. Not curable only managed. Her liver is very small.
**Where did you take them for surgery and when Sonora Vet Specialists in Phoenix, AZ. Dr. Sodorstrom in an Internal Spec & Neurology Specialist
**WHat was the surgery cost including tests, surgery and post surgery. 2 Bile acids tests done & lots of visits as well as ultrasound. Exploratory cost me $2300 with Biopsy & about $1000 for all the testing I did to try to make sure before I opened her up. I wanted to make it the last resort cause we were not for sure.
**And how are they doing now - She is lethargic at times, sleeps a lot, no seizures, scar healed up nicely, doesn't want to eat or drink at times. Head pressing after meals.
**What do you feed them - Carrots, L/D, whatever else she will eat that doesn't have a lot of protein in it.
**Any additional info, tips you wanna post. Since she is 2 yrs & 3 mons old now, I look back & remember that after I brought her home, she would vomit yellow bile every month or so & it was a little episode & I thought she must not have eaten & stomach was upset. I asked the vet & she asked me more ?'s that didn't seem like anything was wrong. It just got bad recently & I was alarmed. If you notice any of these symptoms, pay the $200 or so to get this test done since it is prevelant in our Yorkie breed. From everything I have read, it is hereditary. MVD is worse & I am devastated. To my Yorkie friends, please pray for us..... we need you! |
