Need a little advice here, please! I am about to add another furbaby to our family, she is an ADORABLE little Yorkie that is 13-14 weeks old and weighs 2 lbs.
I just found out she has Coccidea, but is on medication from the vet. I had never heard of Coccidea, so I researched it on the web. It sounds as though it is not something to be concerned about once the animal is on medication. An exception to this can be when older or very small dogs have Coccidea. I think 2 lbs would qualify as very small dog at 14 weeks, but maybe not. My other Yorkie is 6 and a half lbs at 10 months. When she was 14 weeks she weighed a little over 3 lbs, and has always been quite hearty and healthy.
I also learned that full grown animals rarely get it from the puppy but other puppies can. I have a 10 month old Yorkie that has already gone through her first heat--would she be in danger of also getting Coccidea? I also have another dog and 2 cats that are between 4-5 yrs old; would they get it also?
I was debating how to pick up the new baby, since the drive is quite lengthy(approx 12.5 hours each way, so an overnight stay would be required) Due to this, I was considering having the baby flown. But then, I had pretty much settled on driving, if we could reach a date that would fit into my and the breeders schedule. It doesn't seem as though that will happen any time soon, so again I was considering having the baby shipped. Now I read that Coccidea can be aggravated by stress, so I am scared to have the little one fly.
PLEASE anyone, give me some advice, insight or experience. I am at a loss.
Thanks! |
