I agree w/you to a point. Wether its a Yorkie or a Great Dane it is still an added responsibility when you have children.
Children do not open the door with the intentions of letting the dog out. Us as adults can get out quicker and know how to maneuver so the dog usually does not get out. Everyone in the family has to be cautious of this big and small. What I think really, really, really needs to be taught is our dogs to not run out.
