I had a cocker spaniel who was bitten by what the vet said was some kind of pit viper- probably a copperhead or rattlesnake. The vet told me the bites were not fatal for dogs. My cocker was fine except for necrosis at the bite site (his lip). He had a pretty big scar for life though.
