I did a search on making decks and balconies pet and child safe. FYI, do not use staples to attach chicken wire, garden netting, etc. to the bottom of the deck railing. If a staple pulls loose, it can cut or scratch your fur kid. Use plastic ties or screws instead. Another option I came up with is Plexiglas that can be screwed on to the bottom of the railing. I'm thinking of doing this in a 2 x 2 size. No one would know it is there but me and Gracie would be safe.
