We're also on VPI - we're on the expensive plan that's $307 or something a year and covers shots, checkups, etc. Pixie is very fragile and has had many, many problems. We didn't realize how fragile until she had her arm broken... in 4 places. And had to have reconstructive surgery. That incident cost us a fortune. She kept having respiratory infections, too - until we found it it's a collapsing trachea. And she's got luxating patellas. She's a very unhealthy dog, if you can't tell.
We decided to go ahead with insurance, even if it's $307 a year, it's bound to save us at least that, with her medical costs. Her collapsing trachea and meds for that are not covered, but she is otherwise covered. With her scheduled appointments, we're expecting back at least $250 as it is for this year, and that's NOT including the next 11 months with checkups and shots and emergencies and illnesses.... I think it's proving to be worth it. And I highly recommend it.
P.S. - she's been having problems just tonight that we've been watching to see if we need to take her to the ER. And we know we can, because she's covered unless it turns out to be tracheal. |
Which insurance did you get for her? VPI denied Sadie because of her intestinal issues. Said it was a preexisting condition and that if she didn't have any issues within six months, they would consider looking at it again, but she probably will still not be eligible.
