To be honest, you should have learned about the qualities, lines, and tested your dogs before breeding. And also when breeding - you breed and then skip a day and breed again. I only breed twice, some go three times. When you let your male go so many times actually the sperm count goes down.
I just got back from my all breed dog club meeting and our quest speaker was a vet that specializes in fertility and breeding. She even does insemanation and collection and freezing of seman. It was really interesting and all that is involved in it. That are some great books on the topic of breeding - one is "The Joy of Breeding YOur Own Show Dog." And Mary, I think is the one that knows a few more really good books, but I forget their titles. So you came to the right place and glad that you are asking for help.
