They are clever little stinkers. Our little girl does not want to go outside on our deck on her potty pad, where we moved it from the kitchen because we did not like having people come in the house and seeing it. So now our little girl waits until we aren't watching her and will just quietly drift off to the kitchen and do her business. It only takes her 5 seconds I swear because we have barely even begun to notice she's not right there with us and by then it's always too late. So what I've had to do is to tether her to me with her extending leash after her evening meal when she usually goes. She is clever enough to know that when she is on the leash, she can't sneak away and do her business. So she'll hold it, hoping she'll get off the leash at some point. But eventually, nature wins out and she has to go outside on her pad, since we keep taking her out there.
The other thing I have noticed is that they seem to prefer going when you aren't watching. I have no idea why, since other dogs don't seem to have an issue with this. But I've found that if I put her outside on our deck where the potty pad is and then just go in the house and watch her from a distance where she can't see me, she will poop. If I am out there with her waiting for her to go, she won't poop.
So that's what I've figured out so far. Also other Yorkie owners have told me that they seem to not get totally housebroken until they are about a year old. |
